Food Allergies in Children

Food allergies are most common in Children, especially in the latest times, due to changes in the food habits of children. This condition can also be attributed to the environmental conditions in which your child is.

Food allergy, in the first place, can be a genetic problem. A child with a family history of food allergy is highly likely to develop an allergy. To worsen the situation, if the child is exposed to common allergic food like – egg, wheat, peanut, soy and milk- at an early stage, it can contribute to the development of a food allergy at an early stage itself.

Sometimes food allergy can be age related too. For example; children under age 3 may be allergic to milk, wheat and egg. Such allergy gets cured by itself as one gets older. However, allergies to food like tree nuts, fish, shellfish and seeds remain life long.

In all conditions avoiding allergic food at an early age is the only way to develop a tolerance to the allergy in future. It is extremely important to zero in on the food that makes the child allergic. Once the parent becomes familiar with the allergic food and the nature of the allergy, medical help can be sought to deal with the situation whenever the allergy erupts in the child.
