Ways to Find the Best Allergist

When you and your general physician decide that you need an expert allergist for your allergy treatment then your search for the Allergist begins.

You can get the list of expert Allergists practicing in your area through:

• Your friends and family
• Your general physician
• Your Health Insurance Company
• Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
• American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (www.aaai.org)

Once you have found the list of Allergists practicing in your area, you would like to make sure whether he/she will be the right person to treat you.

Start with a quality check on a few aspects. These aspects are:

• Formal Training in allergy and immunology
• Certificate from a recognized board
• Years of practice in the field

Quality checks on the above mentioned aspects will suggest the credibility of the Allergist. But just credibility needn’t assure you comfort with the allergist’s ways of approaching your problem. For this you will have to ask a few questions to yourself after the initial visit to the allergist. These questions are:

• Did the allergist take your and your family’s medical history?
• Did the allergist explain in detail your condition and treatment options that you could go for?

If your answers are positive then the chosen allergist might be the right choice for your treatment. Otherwise your search remains in complete.
