Can Eyeshadow cause allergic reaction? Yes. Eyeshadow allergy comes under the category of cosmetic allergies. An allergist can test you for cosmetic allergies using a patch test. In this test, patches containing suspected allergy-causing chemicals are placed on the upper back and are removed after 48 hours. Redness, itchiness, and swelling at the location of patches indicate an allergy to the chemical.
After knowing the chemicals you are allergic to, you can avoid those eyeshadow brands which contain the chemicals and prevent eyeshadow alleriges.
Tips to Manage Eyeshadow Allergy:
Here are a few tips to manage eyeshadow allergy:
- Try hypo-allergenic eyeshadow products which are less likely to result in allergies
- Get yourself tested for cosmetic allergies to know the chemicals which are triggering the allergy
- Read the labels and avoid those brands which contain the chemicals to which you are allergic to
- Try the eyeshadow brands which contain minimal or no fragrances and preservatives
