Beta-Carotene for Allergy Treatment

Beta-carotene belongs to caretenoids – which are orange, red or yellow pigmented compounds. Beta-carotene is helpful for treating allergies as it strengthens the immune system and protects the mucus membrane. It is also a good source of Vitamin A. Food sources of beta-carotene are carrots, spinach, collard greens and turnip greens. Although beta-carotene supplements are available, getting it through diet is recommended.

How Does Beta-Carotene Allergy Treatment Work?

Beta-carotene helps in reducing the allergy in the following ways:

  • Protects the mucus membranes:

Beta-carotene protects the mucus membranes which line the throat, nose and lungs. A healthy mucus membrane would mean more protection against allergies. This is because the mucus membrane secretes mucus, which protects the cells from allergens such as pollen. Beta carotene also heals the irritated mucus membranes.

  • Boosts the immune system:

Beta-carotene strengthens the immune system and can help you to naturally fight an allergy. A strong immune system can help in reducing allergic reaction and keep you from other diseases.

  • Provides Vitamin A:

Beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A strengthens the immune system and protects the mucus membranes.

Beta carotene offers health benefits such as protection of reproductive health and prevention of  cancer. Vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin E and vitamin B complex are also helpful in fighting allergies.Taking these vitamins can help in reducing the allergic reaction, when an allergen is encountered.

Beta-carotene in the diet is better than taking it in the form of supplements. Make sure you take beta carotene to fight allergies.
