Allergy to Mussels
Some people can develop allergy after eating mussels, squids and prawns. The immune system of the body shows adverse reaction after consuming mussel or mussel containing foods. The immune system of the body produce histamine and immunoglobulin E, when any (allergen) foreign body comes in contact with the body. Eating mussel can lead to various allergic symptoms such as asthma, eczema, abdominal symptoms, headache and sometimes anaphylactic reactions can also be seen. Mussels Allergy Symptoms
Allergy to mussels shows the following symptoms:
– Skin hold all the body tissues intact and is the largest organ of the body. Allergic symptoms of mussels can be seen on the skin which include eczema and hives. Skin can also become itchy, irritated and reddish.
– Mussel allergy can upset the stomach as the immune system of the body recognize this allergen, which can cause harm to the body. Thus, immune system reacts and results in stomach cramps, heartburn, nausea, bloating, gas and diarrhea.
– Due to mussel allergy, our respiratory system can also suffer and can lead to various symptoms like runny nose, wheezing, coughing and watery eyes. It can also cause lung inflammation leading to heavy breathing.
When the symptoms of allergy become severe, it can also lead to anaphylactic shock. Anaphylactic shock is a medical emergency. A person with anaphylactic shock can not only experience stomach pains, hives, bloating and coughing, but there will also be sudden drop in blood pressure and forced breathing.
