Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) is a native to Europe. Butterbur is an extremely beneficial natural remedy for treatment of allergies, along with treatment of asthma, ulcers and migraines.   • This herb is also rich in pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are related with liver toxicity and cancer cells. There are extracts available in the market in which this substance has been removed. If this substance has not been removed completely, it can lead to more serious side effects.

Butterbur can provide temporary relief from allergy, but it should be taken under doctor’s supervision. The typical dosage of this herb ranges from 50 to 75 mg, taken twice everyday. This herb should not be taken by young children, pregnant or nursing women and people with liver or kidney disease.
