Smoke Allergy Symptoms

Smoke allergies are quite common and they pose dangers to people. Many allergies occur due to a reaction to a particular protein. There are various kinds of allergies in people, but smoke allergy is the most common. Symptoms are very similar to symptoms of other common allergies. Symptoms of Smoke Allergy

Smoke allergy symptoms are as follows:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Burning or watery eyes

The above symptoms are noticed immediately after being exposed to smoke and can last for hours. People with smoke allergy when exposed to heavy smoke have the tendency to develop sinusitis, wheezing, bronchitis and asthma.

Smoke Sensitivity

There are 2 kinds of smoke sensitivity, which are as follows:

  • Smoke aggravates underlying allergies

    – The body gets weakened by smoke and starts reacting to tiny pollen bits, dander and dust, which is normally not a problem.

  • Vasomotor rhinitis

    – It is a condition which has symptoms like nasal allergies and can’t be treated by antihistamines.

Smoke allergy is commonly seen in children, infants, elderly people and people with asthma. People allergic to smoke are also allergic to other odors and perfumes. There are various tests to undergo smoke allergy tests such as skin tests and blood allergy tests. Blood allergy tests are less in use than skin tests.
