Formaldehyde Allergy Symptoms

Formaldehyde is one of the commonly used chemicals in some products used in our daily lives. Formaldehyde can cause various allergic reactions. It is also known by various other names like methanal, formalin, methyl aldehyde, morbicid, oxymethylene and methylene oxide. Formaldehyde is widely used in various shampoos, household cleaners, creams, cosmetics, waterproof finishes and anti-wrinkle finishes etc. Formaldehyde can lead to various allergic symptoms in those people who are exposed to it either directly or indirectly. Some symptoms of formaldehyde allergy are discussed in this article.

Symptoms of Formaldehyde Allergy

The following are some of the allergic symptoms found in people with formaldehyde allergy:

  • Nausea

    – Formaldehyde can lead to nausea in hypersensitive people.

  • Vomiting

    – It may cause vomiting in over-sensitive people.

  • Giddiness

    – Formaldehyde can cause imbalance in endolymph fluid of the inner ear.

  • Skin irritation

    – It may lead to hives, white discoloration, scaling, skin irritation, redness and skin rashes.

  • Respiratory Problems

    – Formaldehyde can effect the lung and may experience breathing discomfort.

  • Burning Sensation

    – There is burning sensation in ears, eyes and throat if exposed to formaldehyde.

These are some of the symptoms of formaldehyde allergy. Formaldehyde can also be found in fish, dried foods, Italian cheese and food preservatives. Consumption of these foods may cause headache, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, migraine and diarrhea etc.
