What is a Hypoallergenic Diet?

A hypoallergenic diet is one of the important way to fight food allergies and it also help one to develop resistance against allergies. Abstaining from certain foods is not always good to avoid allergic reactions. Allergy to foods is very common. This is because sometimes you may not like the smell of food, sometimes taste and some simply do not like it at all. We dislike certain foods because our bodies react to it. A hypoallergenic diet can be understood in the following points:

  • A hypoallergenic diet is especially designed to reduce the effects of food allergies.

  • Intensity of allergic reactions differs from a person to person. When a person is allergic towards any food, the allergic symptoms will persist till the food is kept out of reach.
  • Our body show more prominent changes at gene level towards unnatural foods like packaged and processed foods. Thus, ultimately they result in allergic reactions.
  • A hypoallergenic diet is also termed as elimination diet. This is because you eliminate the food which cause allergy and include those foods which are non-allergic.
  • Avoiding the food which leads to allergy is the simplest way to get rid of allergic reactions. Designing a hypoallergenic diet for a person with multiple allergies is a difficult task.
  • Sometimes a particular food is introduced again in a person’s diet after abstaining it for a period of time and then everything can be normal. This is because when a person is exposed to an allergic food for a long time, more antibodies will be produced in the body of an affected person to defend.

Milk causes allergy in some children and they should be kept away from some dairy products like butter, yogurt, cream, cheese and ice cream etc.
