Skin rashes may sometimes create large patches on skin. Development of such itchy skin rash on the body can be frightening you. These skin rashes can be a symptom of several other conditions. Following are some of health conditions which can trigger itchy skin rash on the body.

What Causes Itchy Skin Rash?

As discussed in the above lines, itchy rashes on skin can be caused by numerous factors. Following are some of them:

  • Allergic reactions:

    Allergies are the most common causes of itchy rashes. Skin rashes associated with allergic reactions generally appear like red bumps on skin, which are also known as hives. Several factors can cause allergies and these factors vary from one person to another. Medications, environmental allergens such as pollen, dust mites, etc. are the most common factors which cause allergies.

  • Atopic Eczema:

    This is another condition which develops rashes on skin that are very itchy. The area affected with this condition may become dry, scaly and red. Blisters may also appear on the affected site. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema, which develops itchy rashes on legs, arms and other body parts. These rashes are often observed on the area where skin folds like back of knee or elbows.

  • Contact dermatitis:

    This skin disorder can also trigger skin rashes and appear like red bumps on the skin. This is a type of an allergy that develops when skin comes in contact with some substances such as perfume, cosmetics, jewelry, detergents and harsh soap. The rashes occurred on the skin are restricted to a particular site, that is the area which comes in contact with the particular material.

  • Scabies:

    This is a contagious skin ailment. Scabies develop red bumps and skin rashes. This is caused by the parasite called mites. Rashes associated with this condition may be accompanied by intense itching. These itchy skin rashes are often found in areas where the skin folds like webbing of toes, hands and fingers, armpit and elbows and genital areas.

  • Viral infections:

    Many types of viral infections cause skin rashes. Skin rash may be observed in viral infections such as shingles, herpes, smallpox, measles and chicken pox. They can also be accompanied by other viral infection symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, etc.

  • Other causes:

    Besides the above mentioned conditions, common skin rashes may be caused by pityriasis rosea, swimmer itch, rosacea, exposing the skin to poison oak, fungal infections of skin, ringworm, lichen planus, insect bites and psoriasis. Pityriasis rosacea can cause itchy skin rashes on the back, chest, arms and legs, rarely on face.

  • Aloe vera:

    This is a multi-purpose therapeutic plant. Apply this on the affected area to reduce the itchiness and redness associated with the condition.

  • St. John’s Wort:

  • Oatmeal bath:

    This is one of the best treatments for itchy rashes. Sprinkle some oatmeal in bath tub and soak yourself for 15 minutes. It acts like a calming agent and thus gives relief from itchy rash.

  • Chamomile:

    Chamomile oil is packed with anti inflammatory properties and is very helpful in curing skin rashes.

  • Baking powder:

    This is a proven remedy for itchy rashes. You can make a paste with baking powder and apply it on afflicted area.

  • Ice pack:

    This is a great home remedy for many skin ailments. Application of ice pack on rash gives relief from itching.

  • Olive oil:

    This is one of the natural remedies for many skin ailments. Apply oil on skin rashes to reduce the itchiness and redness associated with skin rashes.

  1. I have skin rashes, developed after i consumed a cheese and pizza. I went to the hospital and they told me apparently is an “allerdic reaction”. Im very confused and i dn’t know what to do, help me Doctor….
