Treatments for Allergic Reactions:

Following are some instructions for treating allergic reactions:

  • Oral histamine helps in treating nasal allergies, watery and itchy eyes or skin inflammation. These are caused by flowers, grass or animal dander. It is better to use non drowsy antihistamines so that you can be alert in the day.
  • It is also good to use anti inflammatory hydrocortisone cream for relieving redness and itching of the skin caused by allergies like clothing. One can also use an ice pack or wet cloths for reducing the skin irritation. If ice is not available, you can wrap frozen vegetables in a towel and can use it.
  • If the over the counter drugs are not helpful in reducing the symptoms, seek an allergist prescription. One can take cetirizine indefinitely to get relief from pet dander, mold, dust or pollen reactions. If sinus or runny nose is caused by pollen the OTC drugs will not work. You are suggested to use prescription decongestant.
  • If antihistamines do not cure allergies, use a nasal corticosteroid spray prescribed by the doctor. This spray does not have any side effects hence one can use them every day.
  • If you suffer from frequent allergies, check for allergy shots or immunotherapy. These are antigens which are given in stages, based on a person need. This is given to alter the response of the immune system to avoid future attacks.
  • If you have sudden stomach pain, severe hives, swelling, difficulty in breathing or vomiting, consult the doctor immediately. These symptoms develop by drinking or eating foods like seafood, eggs, milk or peanuts. Swelling and hives appear due to insect stings also. If you need a medicine immediately then you will be treated with an IV.

These are a few instructions on how to treat allergic reactions. These may not cure the symptoms totally. You must consult the doctor if the symptoms do not subside in a week.
