Allergy is a mistaken reaction of body’s immune system to certain substances, that are usually harmless otherwise. These substances which trigger the immune system are called allergens and they include molds, pollen, dust mites, dander, etc. Allergies are not that serious in most of the cases but in some cases can cause allergic reaction rash. The rash that develops in an allergic reaction can include hives, eczema and contact dermatitis.

    • Hives, also known as utricaria are itchy areas which are raised a bit from the level of skin. These usually appear in groups and can be shrinked on exerting little pressure.
  • Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis causes inflammation, excoriation and intense itching. In case of chronic condition, the skin appears thickened with lines. This type of allergic reaction rash mainly affects young children. The common areas where eczema appears in children and adults as well are the places prone to scratching, friction with clothes and rubbing. They include knees, elbow, scalp, cheek, etc.
  • Contact dermatitis, is a skin condition that usually occurs when a specific substance acting as an allergen or irritant comes in direct contact with the skin. Some of these allergens include opison oa, poison ivy, soaps and detergents.

Home Treatments for Allergic Reaction Rash

    • Olive oil :

      Warm one tablespoon of oil and apply the warm oil to the allergic reaction rash. This penetrates into the skin and cures the rash effectively. This is the best treatment possible at home.

    • Chamomile Flowers :

      Boil one cup of water. Obtain 3 – 4 tablespoons of dried or fresh flowers and add to the boiled water. Allow the decoction to cool and wash the affected skin with this water.

    • Herbs :

      Take handful of herbs like dandelion, chaparral and dock root and blend them along with water to make a paste. Apply it to the skin that is affected with allergic rash. Now wrap the area with a bandage and this is very effective as the affected area acquires all the benefits of the mixture.

    • Oatmeal and Cornstarch bath :

      Take one cup each of each oatmeal and cornstarch in a water tub and soak the affected skin in it for about 10 – 15 minutes. Take a shower afterwards. Repeat this 3 – 4 times a week to get relief from the allergic rash symptoms.

  • Aloe Vera :

    This is a wonderful herb which has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, soothing and antiviral properties. All these properties make this an ideal substance to treat the rash. Extract the pulp from aloe vera leaf and apply it to the rash twice or thrice a day. This helps in reducing the symptoms and speeds up the recovery process.

  • Baking Soda :

    Apply this to the rash affected areas. After applying, gently press the area. This helps in reducing the inflammation and speeds up the healing process.
