If you know that you are allergic to certain substance, then the best thing is to avoid triggers. However, in case of severe allergic reactions, do not treat or wait at home. Go to the hospital emergency department immediately. If nobody is at home, then call an ambulance immediately.
Allergy treatments include:
Allergen Avoidance: Once your doctor identifies the allergen, the most important thing is to avoid allergy triggers.
Medications: Allergy medications help by reducing the immune system reaction. The drugs you use depend on the kind of allergy you have. Some of the common medications are eye drops, nasal sprays, oral medications, corticosteroids, decongestants, cromolyn sodium, antihistamines, and leukotriene modifiers.
Immunotherapy: If the above treatment does not work then your doctor may recommend allergy shots or immunotherapy.
Emergency epinephrine: If you have severe allergy then your doctor may give you an epinephrine. This is given only in case of emergency.
