An exaggerated response or reaction of the immune system to a common food allergen that is swallowed, touched or inhaled can cause enough discomfort and restlessness to both the young and the old.
Common and milder symptoms of an allergic reaction to food allergens include coughing, wheezing, choking, sneezing, rashes, itching, etc. However, sever conditions like an asthma attack, swelling up of the lip or throat, nausea and vomiting require immediate attention of an allergist.
The respiratory system, skin, intestine and the eyes are typically affected by an allergic reaction. These abnormal reactions occur on account of the immune system having to produce antibodies to fend off the food allergens which is nothing but the protein contents of a food that the immune system responds to with repugnance.
Home remedies for food allergies:
Experts have suggested a few home remedies that can help ward off the initial and milder symptoms of a food allergy through the following ways:
- Nutrients like vitamin B5 and vitamin E prove effective in relieving the sufferer from an allergic reaction or symptom as they contain anti-allergic properties that can control a reaction.
- Put five drops of castor oil in half a cup of fruit vegetable juice or plain water and have the solution every morning. This helps in curing the allergies affecting the intestinal tract, nose and the skin.
- Squeeze half a lime in water mixed with teaspoon of honey and drink it every morning. This solution flushes the system off all impurities as it is an anti-allergic and anti-toxic agent. However, people suffering from allergic reactions against citrus fruits should avoid this home remedy.
- One or two bananas everyday can help in warding off the symptoms of an allergic reaction like skin rashes, digestive disorders and/or asthma. But people allergic to this fruit should not adopt this procedure for dealing with their allergic reactions.
- 500ml of carrot juice or a combination of carrot juice with beet or cucumber juices can help in curing allergic reaction from any foods too.
- For nausea, put a fresh piece of ginger in tea to bring relief.
